We
know how daunting a website can be if you’ve never had
to produce one. There are so many questions, and quite often,
even more answers. We have tried to condense some of the most
frequently asked questions below in an effort to simplify some
of the terminology and challenges facing businesses wanting
a web presence. If you have a question which we haven’t
answered here, please feel free to e-mail us at info@em-space.com
and we’ll assist you in any way we can.
Q:
We need a website built — what are the options?
That
depends on what you're hoping to achieve. Anything is possible!
You may need an online brochure with dazzling photos. You
may need a database-driven e-magazine. Or you may just need
a basic site to get the ball rolling.
We
can offer the best advice by talking to you and exploring
your objectives. Who is the site aimed at? What will your
visitors be looking for? Knowing your aims will help us to
build a better site. Sometimes a single creative idea can
make all the difference.
Q:
Can you improve our existing website?
We certainly can! From improved graphics to a complete site
makeover, em-space imaging & design can give your site
a truly professional look and feel. Our free site audit will
pinpoint strengths and weaknesses — and point the way
to a better site.
Q: Do you provide domain
names and web hosting?
Yes, as part of a web design package. Or, if necessary, we
can arrange the transfer of your existing domain to a server
with enhanced facilities such as database access and PHP.
Many options are available depending on the bandwidth and
facilities you require.
Q: What about dynamically-driven
sites and e-commerce?
We can tackle virtually every need of a dynamically-driven
website. We use and recommend PHP for flexibility, speed and
compatibility. It also offers efficient access to MySQL database
connectivity.
E-commerce
is a complex field and we tend to specialise in other areas
(such as great design, efficient coding and powerful navigation).
But if there's something we don't offer in-house, one of our
specialised partners can deliver it as part of the overall
package.
Q: How long will it take?
How long is a piece of string? The answer depends on the nature
of your site and the amount of work involved. But we'll devise
a realistic timeframe to fit your needs. The average website
takes between 1-3 weeks to complete. But we try not to make
average websites!
Your
deadlines are important to us. We'll do everything we can
to fit your timeframe — not forgetting the all-important
proofing and site test period.
Q: What browsers do you
support?
Over 85% of visitors to your site will be using a browser
with support for the latest HTML and CSS specifications. This
includes Microsoft Internet Explorer 5+, Netscape 6+ and Opera
5+. We concentrate on these browsers because previous versions
use outdated technology with major compatibility issues. The
latest handheld and wireless devices also require the new
specification.
Making
your website compatible with obsolete browsers will tie you
to old technology that is rapidly being phased out. We believe
that is a mistake. And with a little programming skill, visitors
with older browsers will not be left out in the cold either!
Q: What about updates?
Do you offer site maintenence?
Absolutely. We can manage your site in any way you choose.
You may want complete control over everything — with
the reassurance of expert backup when you need it. Or you
might prefer to supply us with updates and let us do the hard
work for you. Our site maintenance services are flexible and
highly competitive.
