Brian and I are so delighted to see Terry’s memory being honoured in such a positive and worthwhile manner – raising funds to promote scholarships which will recognize elementary and high school volunteers across Durham.
Terry’s life revolved around volunteering- whether it was supporting and training community groups and sports associations in his work as a Recreation Supervisor or whether he himself stepped up to champion a cause or project he felt was needed and was of value.
Statistics show us that an interest in volunteering developed during one’s childhood and teen-age years is very likely to be maintained during adulthood.
Our children and youth are quite capable of seeing the value of giving of oneself and experiencing the joy and personal growth that occurs naturally through an involvement which comes from their own heart and hands. Acknowledging and affirming this early behaviour will truly enhance our community of Durham in the years to come.
Many thanks to all those who have taken up the cause and are devoting a great deal of time and energy to see the success of this Golf Tournament. It is obvious to Brian and I that Terry made an impact on many people’s lives and also attracted the most caring, devoted and giving friends into his circle. Because of you his legacy of volunteering will continue to inspire and encourage others.
To those who will be participating in this Golf Tournament - a big round of applause to you, as it is your direct donation that will bring the scholarships to fruition. Without you none of this would be possible.
And keeping with Terry’s belief about life-you must always make room for the fun stuff and when you combine community service with community fun you can’t help but feel the rush. |
